QUALIFICATION DESCRIPTION

Do you enjoy getting into the great outdoors? Do you like snorkelling, bushwalking or kayaking? Do you want to try some new fun activities? Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation includes 11 units of study. They centre around the skills,
knowledge and practical elements essential to snorkelling, bushwalking, kayaking and other recreational activities. Upon completing the Certificate, you will be competent to assist leaders in facilitating these recreational experiences.
What next? When you complete this course, you may wish to assist leaders in indoor or outdoor environments, adventure learning centres, tourism operators (including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led organisations) or camps. Or you may decide to conduct further training or study so that you can be a leader in the Recreation industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Enrolled Djarragun College students may apply to enrol in a VET course from Year 10 onwards.

DURATION AND LOCATION

This Certificate II course is delivered over 2 years on site at Djarragun College.

DELIVERY MODES

The course will be delivered in the classroom, face-to- face, using a range of practical and theoretical teaching and assessment methods.

FEES

There is no additional fee for enrolling in a VET course, there are two different College fee levels applicable for enrolling at the College.  Any VET courses are covered within this fee.

SUPPORT SERVICES AVAILABLE

The College has invested heavily in support services to support student learning. We have a substantial support staff made up of Teaching Assistants, Learning Enhancement teachers and Youth Support Officers.

We also partner with Ngak Min Health to access services that are typically not available in schools.

CERTIFICATE II IN SPORT COACHING

QUALIFICATION DESCRIPTION

Sport Coaching Certificate II is a practical-based course where students gain the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to work in the Sporting Industry

The program is designed to create local entry-level employment opportunities for students in the local sport industry.

This program aims to:

  • Provide avenues for social interaction, develop self-worth, leadership skills and promote community involvement through NRL and AFL
  • Develop skill sets to meet industry, workplace requirements and sporting accreditation
  • Build partnerships between football organisations, sporting bodies, local businesses, community and institutions
  • Link opportunities for students through local football organisations

Our objective is to provide graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge that will empower them to successfully fulfill the demands of the workplace.

Training is delivered in stages that correspond to AQF levels. The desired pathway for a qualification is for students to complete the requirements of the previous level qualification before progressing to the next level – thereby achieving more than one qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Enrolled Djarragun College students may apply to enrol in a VET course from Year 10 onwards.

Have a genuine interest to get involved in community sport as a player, official or coach and event management. Having played sport is beneficial but not expected. Students must have a willingness to work in team environments as well as independently.

It is a requirement of the course that students are involved in officiating at a local club or assist at local schools’ events

This Certificate II course is delivered over 2 years on site at Djarragun College.

THIRD PARTY DISCLOSURE

Djarragun College staff will deliver the qualification in conjunction with College of Sports & Fitness staff .

  • Develop skill sets to meet industry, workplace requirements and sporting accreditation
  • Build partnerships between touch football organisations, sporting bodies, local businesses, community and institutions
  • Link opportunities for students through local touch football organisations

Our programs are community engaged, project based, visual and hands-on learning with our sporting groups and partners.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Enrolled Djarragun College students may apply to enrol in a VET course from Year 10 onwards.

Have a genuine interest to get involved in community sport as a player, official or coach and event management. Having played sport is beneficial but

not expected. Students must have a willingness to work in team environments as well as independently. Any exceptions must be endorsed by the Head of Department and approved by Administration.

It is a requirement of the course that students are involved in officiating at a local club or assist at local schools’ events

CERTIFICATE III IN FITNESS

COURSE CODE: SIS30321

Issuance of this qualification is awarded by Binnacle Training RTO 31319

QUALIFICATION DESCRIPTION

Students will participate in the delivery of a range of fitness programs and services to clients within their school community. Graduates will be competent in a range of essential skills – such as undertaking client health assessments, planning and delivering fitness programs, and conducting group fitness sessions in indoor and outdoor fitness sessions, including with older adult clients. This program also includes the following:

  • First Aid qualification and CPR certificate

A range of career pathway options including direct pathway into Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Trainer) at another RTO

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Enrolled Djarragun College students may apply to enrol in a VET course from Year 10 onwards.

At enrolment, each student will be required to create (or simply supply if previously created) a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI creates an online record of all training and qualifications attained in Australia.

LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY SKILLS

A Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) Screening process is undertaken at the time of initial enrolment (or earlier) to ensure students have the capacity to effectively engage with the content. Please refer to Binnacle Training’s Student Information document for a snapshot of reading, writing and numeracy skills that would be expected in order to satisfy competency requirements.

DURATION

This Certificate III course is delivered over 3 years on site at Djarragun College.

THIRD PARTY DISCLOSURE

SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness is delivered as a senior subject by qualified school staff via a third party arrangement with external Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Binnacle Training. Students successfully achieving all qualification requirements will be provided with the qualification and record of results. Students who achieve at least one unit (but not the full qualification) will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Upon successful completion students will achieve a maximum 8 QCE credits.

DELIVERY MODES

Program delivery will combine both class-based tasks and practical components in a real sport environment at the school. This involves assisting in the delivery of a range of sport programs to real participants within the school community (high school and primary school students). A range of teaching/learning strategies will be used to deliver the competencies. These include:

  • Practical tasks
  • Hands-on activities involving participants/clients
  • Group work
  • Practical experience within the school sporting programs

Evidence contributing towards competency will be collected throughout the course.

PATHWAYS

The Certificate III in Fitness will predominantly be used by students seeking to enter the sport, fitness and recreation industry as a fitness instructor, community coach, sports coach, athlete, or activity assistant.

Students may also choose to continue their study by completing the Certificate IV in Fitness at another RTO.
