The College understand the barriers that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can experiencing in accessing the mainstream Australian Curriculum. This is why the College has invested heavily in support services to support student learning.
The College has a dedicated Head of Learning Enhancement who is responsible for providing support programs to assist students and teachers in accessing the curriculum. Our teachers are trained in curriculum differentiation and in personalising educational programs for students. We have a substantial support staff, made up of Direct Instruction Tutors, Teaching Assistants, Learning Enhancement teachers and Youth Support Officers.
We partner with Ngak Min Health to access services that are typically not available in schools. Through Ngak Min, who are based on campus, we have access to:
- Psychological
- Nurses
- Doctors
- Paediatricians
- Speech pathologists
- Occupational therapists
- Social workers
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers
- Dieticians
- Case managers
All of these services are available to our students, parents and families onsite and there is a positive working relationship between the clinic and the school.
There is no other school in Queensland, perhaps Australia, that can provide these support services to students onsite.
